As per notification no. 58/2016-Cus dated 5 October 2016, the requirement of the approval of the Government of India or of ITPO for the events specified in Schedule II of notification no. 157/90 has been waived off. ​

​ATA Carnets are not accepted for transit operations 

ATA Carnets are not accepted for postal traffic. 

Temporary admission operations under national laws and regulations 

Professional equipment meant for press/media, television broadcasting, sporting events, testing/measuring/calibration etc. can be temporarily imported into India under the cover of ATA Carnets. (notification no. 4/2018 – Customs dated 18 January 2018)​

Goods for exhibitions and fairs: 6 months 

Professional equipment: 2 months 

If holders would want their goods to remain in India longer than the period specified, they should obtain approval, therefore (1) from the Customs office of import; (2) before the original period has expired. Failing such approval within the due period, duties, taxes and interests would become payable.​
